Word of warning \u2013 I am full of analogies when it comes to explaining the complex world of Project Management, so continue at your peril!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-paragraph container-post container\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When a new project comes in, those early stages can sometimes feel like a giant, ever-evolving jigsaw puzzle with lots of little pieces that are yet to come together. As digital <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ronins.co.uk\/project-goals-project-management-skill\/\">project managers<\/a>, we&#8217;re the puzzle solvers; the picture only comes together when we have the right skills and can see the full picture. Don&#8217;t forget to also check my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ronins.co.uk\/success-in-web-project-management\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"4093\">9 post series<\/a> where we dive deeper into each key skill for digital project managers. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-heading container-post container\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"technical-empathy\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Technical_empathy\"><\/span><strong>Technical empathy<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-paragraph container-post container\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most useful skills is <strong>technical empathy<\/strong> and know-how. I like to think of it as being a chef: you can&#8217;t cook without knowing your way around the kitchen. We need to understand the digital technologies we&#8217;re working with to spot potential challenges, foresee limitations and come up with solutions. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-paragraph container-post container\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Having the right project management tools \u2013 like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlassian.com\/software\/jira\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jira<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/asana.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Asana<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/trello.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trello<\/a>&#8211; really helps! They&#8217;re our secret recipe for tracking progress and managing tasks. As digital project managers, we need to steer the ship, making decisions about everything from which route to take \u2013 resource allocation \u2013 to who does what (task delegation). And when the sea gets rough (i.e. conflicts within the team or client), we need to step in and calm the waters.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-heading container-post container\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"communication\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Communication\"><\/span><strong>Communication<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-paragraph container-post container\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Communication<\/strong> is our compass. Giving clear instructions, listening, and allowing the team to have a voice ensures that everyone is going in the same direction. And when it comes to presenting updates and reports to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ronins.co.uk\/internal-external-stakeholders-identification\/\">stakeholders<\/a>, we need to use our storytelling skills to keep everyone engaged and on board. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-paragraph container-post container\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As digital project managers, combining communication with transparency will ensure a winning combination that will keep you on the right track, avoid surprises and foster a relationship with your clients based on trust and respect. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-heading container-post container\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"problem-solving-skills\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Problem-solving_skills\"><\/span><strong>Problem-solving skills<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-paragraph container-post container\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Problem-solving skills<\/strong> are like lifeboats. If we spot a storm risk ahead, we need to be prepared, not panic, and sail it with confidence. Adapting to change and thinking critically can make the difference between sink or swim because as we all know change is constant and projects not always going according to plan. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-heading container-post container\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"emotional-intelligence\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Emotional_intelligence\"><\/span><strong>Emotional intelligence<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-paragraph container-post container\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And lastly but not least important, <strong>emotional intelligence<\/strong> is the heartbeat of the journey. Being empathetic, understanding, and addressing our team&#8217;s concerns make us not just captains but leaders. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-paragraph container-post container\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recognising our strengths and weaknesses through self-awareness keeps us humble, ready to learn and open to new ideas. Finally, let\u2019s not forget to cheer! By doing so, we become better digital project managers as well as puzzle solvers, ready to tackle any <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ronins.co.uk\/digital-transformation-agency\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.ronins.co.uk\/digital-transformation-agency\/\">digital project<\/a> that comes our way.<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Five must-have skills for effective digital project management.
